Standards & Quality

Post Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency

VA Tennessee Valley Health System (2023-2024)

In 2023, I was hired to lead, develop and administer the Post Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency Program (PB-RNR) at VA Tennessee Valley Health System (TVHS). During my time here I have provided oversight, review, and management of Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency Program and provided significant contributions to meet the standards prescribed by the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In February of 2024, I assisted in leading the CCNE site visit which has resulted in a unofficial CCNE accreditation. Official CCNE accreditation is expected in October after the American Associations of Colleges of Nursing Board members meet to review and approve the accreditation.

Quality Management

Orange County Emergency Medical Services (2008-2020)

I led our team in providing oversight of system level quality management and continuous quality improvement for healthcare facilities (Trauma, Stroke, Cardiac and pediatric centers), system providers (ALS, BLS and Ambulance providers), EMS Personnel (EMT’s, Paramedics, Nurses), and emergency ambulance operating areas. We identified system gaps and implemented corrective actions to address identified gaps. One example includes the addition of criteria for ground level fall of elderly patients ages 65 or older on blood thinners to the trauma triage criteria. Trauma data was analyzed and it was discovered that patients who are 65 or older and on blood thinners who experience a ground level fall have a mortality rate as high as 50%. By adding this population to the trauma triage criteria, these patients were subsequently routed to trauma centers where they could receive rapid assessment, diagnostics and reversal of blood thinners if needed.

Program Evaluation

Santa Ana College of Nursing (2016-2023)

I led our team in providing oversight, review, and management of Student Learning Outcomes and End of Program – End of Year Report for semester level nursing program data and outcomes. This information was used to address program changes to improve student learning and NCLEX pass rates. One change we made was related to the workload that was contributing to student failures. We reviewed specific exam questions based on the SLO's and EOP EOY report and made changes to the questions to correct the identified deficiencies.
